“Can I Own a Medical Spa?”
Dori Soukup, the founder of InSPAration Management, answers another Question of the Week.
Nick, from Virginia, asks:
“I’m thinking about opening a med spa. I am an entrepreneur. Can I own one?”
That’s a huge question. I don’t know if I can answer it right away, because it really depends on many things. Whether you can own a med spa or not, when you call the state, you get one person on the phone one day and they tell you one answer. Then you call the next day and you get another answer. It’s what I truly call the Wild Wild West.
But here’s the thing. There are many people that own med spas who are entrepreneurs like you. There are ways around it.
Now, I am not an attorney. What I advise you to do is reach out to a med spa professional. We work with a couple who are very reliable. If you want to send me an email, I’ll be happy to send you some information about who is a good attorney to speak with. That would be the best advice I can give you because it really varies from state to state.
Virginia is like the Wild Wild West, with all due respect. There’s a lot of non-medical professionals in Virginia who are doing all kinds of treatments, not just owning the med spa. So, it really depends.
My advice is to contact Allyson Avila, she’s an attorney for Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani. Contact her here. Then we will help you set up the business once you get the legal issues out of the way.
There are many people who set up a corporation. Then the corporation can be owned by a medical professional, and you would channel everything through that corporation.
So, there are ways around it. It’s just a matter of setting it up properly.
Thank you so much for your question. Since it is a legal question, that’s something that I would rather leave to the professionals who are experts with that.
But do your homework. Make sure that you do things the right way because the last thing you want to do is get involved in doing some things that are not beneficial to you or jeopardize you or your family in any way.
Make sure you that the I’s and cross the T’s. Make sure that you seek professional advice in that matter.
Write to me at Dori@InSPArationManagement.com. We can refer you to a couple of attorneys who can definitely help you, Nick. Thank you so much for your question.
