“What is the best way to recruit medi spa or spa talent?”
The right word to use is “recruit” talent. The problem with most medical spa, wellness centers and spa businesses is they don’t recruit. They simply put an ad in Indeed or Craigslist or whatever platform they like to advertise for talent and they wait for people to submit resumes. Well, that’s one way to hire.
But the best way to hire is just like they do in sports — where they go out and they scout for talent and they recruit the right people. So, what’s the best way to do it?
Look at your surrounding medi spas and spas and start getting to know who are the best of the best employees. Go after them; go recruit them. People sometimes tell me, “But you know, I don’t feel right about doing that.” Well, do you think the Yankees or the Magic or the Lakers or these sports teams are afraid to go recruit because they don’t want to have other teams think that they’re stealing their talent? It’s business and you have to have an A team to be the best of the best!
To have an A Team, you’ve got to go and recruit. So have no fear, just go out and get the best of the best. That would be a way for you to build your A Team. “How much should I expect to increase my business on an annual basis?”
First, I have to clarify some things. It’s very easy to increase your business exponentially, if you’re a brand-new business. Picture an airplane taking off, you’re gaining momentum and you start going up very quickly, until you get up to 30K or a certain level of cruising. Now, in that type of business, if you have a brand-new business, it’s easy to increase your business by a lot. You need to be doubling and tripling and quadrupling…
Now, if you have an existing business that’s been open for a while, then it might be a little bit more difficult but doable to increase your business exponentially. So, it really depends. But either way, we definitely need growth.
The other thing you need to take into consideration is the capacity of your space. How many rooms do you have? What is the growth potential for your medical spa, or anti-aging clinic, or wellness center? So, if you have rooms sitting empty, you have a lot of potential to increase your capacity to 80% or 90%. Then you should do everything you can to increase your business exponentially.
But if you don’t have that ability, if your place is already at capacity, then to increase the business is definitely something that you should still focus on. But it would be by opening another location, or expanding so you can continue to grow.
Alright. So, having said all that … Taking those things into consideration you still need to grow your business. I think in any kind of business you need to grow about 25% — 20% at least year over year.
Last week I was speaking at a conference in Las Vegas, and in early January I was doing on-location business training with Dr. Leeman in Texas. He is an ear, nose and throat doctor, and he also has a Medi spa component to his business.
So, I went to do a Fresh Start. He is also a CoachMe Platinum member. Him and his management team came to the Leap Ahead seminar, and there he invited me to come on location. I was there on the 8th and 9th of January. So, we did the training — armed everybody with the business tools they need to grow the business and improve the guest experience. We set a goal for them to increase the business by 25% over last January. So, while at the conference, I ran into them. And he came up to me with Becca his practice manager and a couple of other team members and they were so happy to tell me they reached their goal. Not only did they reach the goal, but they exceeded it also by $15,000! So, they did 25% and $15,000 on top of it. So needless to say, they were very excited about that.
It’s easy actually to increase 25% if you implement a proven-effective business model and certain strategies to really help your team achieve them. And one of the strategies that we implemented here is called the Daily Success Planning. That’s where every day you should meet with the medi spa team, discover your opportunities for success and be able to implement it for that day. This is something that we teach during the Leap Ahead seminar. It’s one of the strategies that we teach.
If your team buys-in on the change, buys-in on the actual increase, and then you implement strategies to show them how to achieve that increase, and then you set up bonuses based on that increase, now everyone will be working toward that same target and achieving the goals.
So, I would encourage you to do at least 20% or 25% and more. We have clients last year that increased by 50%, 55%, 60%, 70%. So, anything is possible! You just have to do the work and implement strategies to help you achieve it. So, I would like you to think big. I want you to think big!
See what your capacity is right now and try to make goals that are within those capacity capabilities. It doesn’t do you any good to set goals if you’re already at a certain capacity level and you can’t grow. Then it’s time to expand to a new location if that’s the case.

In my consulting firm, I work with many entrepreneurs who generate millions per year in revenue. Does that make them millionaires? No, because in most cases, they will generate about 20% in profit if they are very good. So, it will take a few years of doing this to make your first million. But even then, by the time you paid all your bills, you will be lucky to put some money aside to save your first million. So how do you chart a path to becoming a millionaire?

First, let’s define what is a Millionaire.
A millionaire is a person who has an income of $250k and up, a net worth of $3 to $10 million. Those people earn 40% of all U.S. income and control 70% of the U.S. net worth.

Here are 10 common characteristics and traits of millionaires:
1. Focused, Set Goals
Millionaires are focused. They never give up on their goals. Normal people have good intentions, but when things get tough, they give up. But millionaires persist.
2. Keep Learning
If you read biographies of millionaires and billionaires, they always talk about the importance to keep learning. The minute you stop learning, the minute you flat line and become like everyone else. The more you learn, the more you earn.
3. Thinking Big
Millionaires think about the future and how big it can really get. If you are going to go to work every day, you might as well think big and accomplish big things.
4. Taking Action
Millionaires don’t just talk about getting things done. They actually take action and accomplish things.
5. Recruit Talent
To become a millionaire, it takes a team. Millionaires are always looking for and recruiting talent.
6. Train and Invest in Team Development
To succeed, you must train your team. Training is an investment that pays off. The more you train, the closer you are to becoming a millionaire.
7. Know How to Market Themselves and Their Business
As a medi spa owner, you have to be clever with your marketing. People don’t have to have what you sell. It’s not a life or death situation. We are talking about discretionary income. That is why you have to be very smart about your pricing and your strategy. You need to attract the affluent.
8. Know How to Lead and Influence
The phrase lead by example is TRUE. Millionaires are great leaders. They know how to communicate their message and influence people to get things done.
9. Belong to Mastermind Groups
To be a millionaire, you need to be around Millionaires. They usually belong to leadership groups such Mastermind groups.
10. They Give Back
To receive, it’s important to give back. It can be time, money, knowledge, etc. Give back.

These were their financial ratios. Their product cost is 32%, their compensation cost is 62%, their operating expenses are outrageous! They lost over $200k last year! As I was speaking with them, I found out that they did not have a medi spa sales model, did not have a performance-based compensation plan, did not have a good guest consultation process, and the list goes on and on…

“No matter what I try, my team does not want to sell. What can I do to change that?”
Not selling is a big problem in the medi spa and spa industry. It’s one of the biggest challenges that I get when I first start working with medi spa and spa professionals.
They usually tell me, (“my staff” and I tell them “you mean, your team”) is great at doing the treatments, but
they don’t really think of upgrading or trying to actually maximize home care sales or retail sales. They just
don’t think about it.
It’s not a priority.
To help you, there are several things actually you can do:
1. You need to train, train, train and train your team. You have to train them on a recommending system, because if you don’t have a system, then sometimes they’re going to do it and sometimes they don’t.
So, I was having a coaching session with Titanium Members yesterday. Dr. Sandhu has three locations and she had two of her managers on the conference with us. We were talking about exactly that topic. How can we maximize revenue? She has many expenses, the rent is high and you have to make over six figures every single month to just break even.
If the team is not on board, seeing what they really need to be doing in order to generate revenue, if they don’t have a system, they don’t have targets, and they don’t know what to do, then they’re not going to reach those goals.
We were talking about how can we take a brand-new client and maximize the revenue on that initial visit — setting
them up properly from the beginning with the consultation process. We teach with the
S.A.C.R.E.D. system. In it, we talk about how can we take the guest from the first visit to creating a customized
program that can add up to thousands and thousands of dollars. Then we make sure that the customized program is not
only recommending treatments, but we also are recommending home care products. After our talk, they realized that the
system was not implemented and was
2. Make it mandatory when your team completes every treatment, they need to be filling out the Guest Recipe form where they document what upgrades they did, what treatments they should have next, and then what home care products they need to take with them.
3. No one should be allowed to be able to check out without the Guest Recipe form turned in to Reception or the Guests Relations team.
4. Some people think the Guest Relations team should be doing the selling. Yes, but your providers are the experts. It’s your end injectors, your estheticians and everyone who is doing the treatments who needs to make your recommendations and maximize your medi spa or spa revenue.

If we don’t tell people how we can help them, then they’re not going to benefit from the relationship. So, if you think of it as selling, so be it.
