Here we are in December, one of my favorite months of the year! Not only is it time to spread cheer and kindness to others but also count our blessings!

It’s the time of the year to reflect on your purpose, your path, your accomplishments and how you’re living your professional and personal life. So, take time for yourself this month and assess how you are doing and create plans for success.  The fact is that people don’t plan to fail they fail to plan so if you don’t plan your life someone else will and it may not be the life you want to live.

Well Planned Changes Lead to Success

Why do most people and employees fight change?  I never understood that because change is all around us.   From new technologies, processes, innovation, business strategies and lifestyles, everything is always changing.

This article will give you a new outlook on how to handle change that will lead to success!

Let’s start with defining change.

Change is the cause to be different.

Change is when you adjust the way you do things.

One thing we are sure about is that change is CONSTANT and it only hurts you and/or your spa team when you fight it. So, stop it.

It’s a fact that every spa or medical spa goes through changes that can often create fear and uncertainty.  However, when you plan for change and take the following into consideration you’ll be able to implement it much more effectively.

The best example I can give you about change is when I get invited to visit a spa or a medi spa and conduct onsite Fresh Start training.

Usually the leaders are as nervous as the rest of the team because they know change is on the way. Usually the program includes me training them on new systems, implementing new structure, compensation or protocols.

When we are talking about this much change, there could be chaos if proper planning isn’t implemented. When you plan for change, all goes smoothly and your team will welcome it.

Keep in mind that change sometimes brings ahead uncertain emotions that you need to be prepared to address.

  • Denial: When change is announced, some people may feel that it’s not necessary therefore we need to explain the benefits of doing so.
  • Resistance: With any change, there will always be one or two people who may resist it. Identify who they are and have a one-on-one with them.
  • Acceptance: Changes generally occur for the better and have a positive influence on those involved. Focus on the positives.

When planning change, you must:

  • Identify what needs to be changed and why
  • Who will the change affect and how
  • What will happen if the change is not made
  • Outline the steps of launching the change
  • Description of the new vision
  • Identify and share what’s in it for the team

Showing the entire spa team “what’s in it for them” will produce a great starting point and will help generate support.

Strategies to Help You Implement Change
Preparing for change must be well-planned. These strategies are what we use when we implement a successful Fresh Start for spas and medi spas.

Image

  • Education: Educate the spa team on the reasons for the change, as well as on the new process, systems, strategies, etc.  What are the expected outcomes?
  • Communication: Keep the lines of communication open prior to and after launching. Keep your ears open; you may need to do some tweaking to the change. Have the spa department leads report back to you with progress.
  • Training: Make sure your entire team is feeling comfortable with the new change. Train, train and train some more.
  • Flexibility: Be flexible and ready to modify or update the current plan to account for any unforeseen situations.

These strategies will help battle any negativity and prepare you for a successful change.

Celebrating Successes
Open communication between managers and leads have been shown to have a significant impact on the spa team during a change initiative; it is essential that you celebrate successes with employees for positive performance.

Don’t stop change in your spa or medi spa because you don’t like to rock the boat.  Sometimes rocking the boat is the best thing for your business if you plan it right!

The new year is around the corner, it’s a great time to plan and implement change. Start with yourself!  Attend the Lead Ahead seminar and gain the blueprint for positive changes and success!

There are many day spas who are doing treatments they should not be doing.  For example, Texas recently passed a new law that prohibits estheticians from performing micro-needling.  Also, if you perform medical treatments, some states require that a doctor always be on-site. There are many new laws of which you need to be aware.  Listen now and keep your business safe.
