It’s a busy time for all of us. We’re busy at work, busy at home—we have to finish our Christmas shopping, decorate, go to parties, and do all the other things we all want and need to do during the holiday season—so, I am keeping this message short and sweet.

On behalf of our entire team, I want to thank you for making 2009 a very memorable year for us and we look forward to helping you achieve even more success in 2010!

We wish you a healthy and prosperous New Year—Happy Holidays!

LEAP AHEAD In 2010
Have you planned your success for 2010?
Here is one financial strategy you can focus on we call it VPG – Volume Per Guest.
VPG is the best way to evaluate your performance it gives the actual revenue you generate from each person that walks into your spa, for both service and retail. It’s your handshake factor. You can calculate your VPG for the entire spa, by department and for each individual on your team it’s truly an eye opener.

Begin by calculating your overall Volume per Guest for both service and retail. It never fails when I ask a spa director “what is your average volume per facial”? They say $100. Then, I have them run a report and calculate their VPG only to discover that its $75 or $80. Normally, it is much less than what they thought. What is your VPG?

The first step to calculate your VPG is to run a report to identify your year-to-date service and retail volume.

Second: Run a report to identify how many guests visited your spa year-to-date.

Here is the formula for calculating your Volume Per Guest:
Service volume ÷ Number of guests = Service volume per guest
$1million ÷ 8,000 guests = $80 volume per guest for service

Retail volume ÷ Number of guests = Retail volume per guest
$100,000 ÷ 8,000 guests = $8.00 per guest for retail

Discover those numbers and see where you stand. Then set your goals to improve them in 2010. If you improve your VPG, you will increase your revenue without having to increase the number of guests!

Just imagine if you do both! Increase your guest flow and increase your volume per guest. You will surely elevate your success!

Beginning to measure your performance with VPG gives you a whole new way to look at your business and your performance.

We want to help you start 2010 on the right foot. So we decided to give all InSPAration Moments subscribers a very special Holiday Gift.

I am sure many of you are looking forward to a more prosperous 2010. And prosperous it shall be! But it’s not going to happen by chance. It’s going to take planning…There is a saying “if you keep doing what you are doing, you’ll keep getting what you are getting.”
What can you do different this year?

You can start by attending the “LEAP AHEAD” Spa Director Seminar. The finance strategy I shared with you above is one of many strategies we discuss during the seminar, but in a lot more detail.

Training Curriculum for 2010

Brandi Byrd, Spa Director from the Westin Heavenly Spa in Hilton Head Island, called me the other day to schedule her team’s training webinars with me. During our conversation, I discovered that she was actually publishing the entire year’s training curriculum for technical and business. I was so impressed! This is something I suggest to all spa professionals, but very few people actually do it.

If you want to have a SUCCESSFUL 2010, do what Brandi is doing. Discover your team’s challenges and schedule your training for the entire year! “People don’t plan to fail, they fail to plan”. If you plan your training schedule, you can insure your team’s success!
Don’t wait, do it now!!!
